Environmental and Social Specialist (f/m/d) in the field of explosive ordnance risk assessment
We offer multifaceted tasks
Further develop KfW Development Bank’s approach to managing explosive ordnance (EO) risks in financed projects, including integration into the environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) processes.
Develop and enhance processes, tools, guidance, and templates for internal risk management related to EO
Provide internal consulting and support to project teams on general procedures as well as country- and project-specific challenges related to EO risk
Advise project teams and partners on project-specific risk management procedures, studies, and project design related to EO risk management; for projects with high EO related risks advise from preparation to appraisal, until implementation.
Categorization and appraisal of the environmental and social (E&S) risks of financing projects of KfW Development Bank – mainly with focus on projects with EO risks – in cooperation with project teams
Monitor and collect country-specific information on EO risks and synthesize knowledge for internal information sharing
Design and conduct internal training sessions on EO risk management and related procedures
Engage in institutional exchange and cooperation with peers, including multilateral development banks and other relevant organizations
Manage and coordinate a framework contract related to EO risk assessment and management
Your competencies and experiences
Relevant master’s degree in engineering, environmental or geo-sciences, risk management, or a related field; qualifications with a focus on explosive ordnance, environmental protection, or risk assessment are preferred. Work experience with military forces is an advantage.
Expert knowledge and practical experience in explosive ordnance risk assessment, management and/or disposal particularly in applying relevant international standards such as IMAS. Experience in environmental and social impact assessment and due diligence is an advantage.
Several years of relevant professional experience in projects with an international context regarding the analysis and management of EO risks, including the development of technical and organizational solutions, and monitoring of their implementation. Experience in conflict-prone regions such as the Middle East, Easter Europe, Asia, Latin America or Africa is an asset.
Established network and contacts in the EO disposal sector are desirable to support institutional cooperation and knowledge exchange.
Very good command of English is required. Good German skills are desirable as German is the working language at KfW. One additional foreign language (French, Arabic or Spanish) is an advantage.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly grasp complex interrelationships and communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences.
Flexibility to work on a variety of topics and adapt to changing project requirements.
Team player with excellent communication, collaboration, and assertiveness skills.
Willingness to travel to non-European countries, including those classified with high security risks.
